Second Waynesburg University alum, WR Dakota Romantino, signs on to play for the Miners

Wheeling, WV - Washington Spine, Disc and Joint Center and the Wheeling Miners proudly announce the signing of Dakota Romantino, a standout wide receiver and alum of Waynesburg University, to the team roster. Romantino, a Charleroi High School graduate, returns to the local area to continue his football journey with the Miners.

Having excelled at Waynesburg University, where he was named to the All PAC team as an honorable mention in 2021, Romantino brings a wealth of talent and experience to the Miners. General Manager and Head Coach Josh Resignalo expressed enthusiasm about recruiting local college talent, emphasizing the importance of players representing their community both on and off the field.

"Dakota is a great addition to our team," said Resignalo. "His on-field abilities speak for themselves, but what sets him apart is his character off the field.  We're thrilled to have him join us."

During his collegiate career, Romantino amassed an impressive 2,025 receiving yards, with 120 receptions and 12 touchdowns in 27 games played. Additionally, Romantino gained international experience with a brief stint playing in Barcelona, Spain.

Reflecting on his journey to the Miners, Romantino expressed his excitement for the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field.

"I've always had a passion for football, and when I saw the opportunity to join a college teammate at the Wheeling Miners, I knew it was the right move for me," said Romantino. "Being able to play after college in front of my family and friends, right here near where I’m from, is a dream come true."

Romantino's signing underscores the Miners' commitment to fostering local talent and engaging with the community by signing their 8th local Ohio Valley college player to the organization. As the team gears up for the upcoming season, Romantino's presence promises to energize fans and inspire aspiring athletes throughout the region.

The Wheeling Miners continue to extend an invitation to all college players in the vicinity to participate in their upcoming open tryout on March 15th at Highlands Sports Complex.
